Overview

The Commodities Analyst is responsible for researching market trends, economic indicators, and supply and demand factors to forecast price movements for raw materials like protein, grains, dairy, oil, and soft commodities.  The Analyst is also responsible for gathering, verifying, inputting, and maintaining multiple sources of commodity data into the NDCP Commodity Trade Risk Management (CTRM) system.  The candidate must be a motivated team player with strong organizational, analytical and people skills. This position will support additional Strategic Sourcing activities including the tracking of commodity commitments, understanding and maintaining pricing models, maintaining documentation and implementation of commodity agreements, and providing pricing forecasts and analysis.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the Strategic Sourcing Team through data gathering and analytics. Utilize strategic sourcing tools to sustain continuous cost reduction programs for NDCP’s largest controllable expenditures.
  • Perform in-depth fundamental research on commodity markets by analyzing supply and demand dynamics, market sentiment, geopolitical events, weather, and economic factors.
  • Build financial models to forecast commodity prices utilizing multiple inputs, track market movements, and assess the potential impact of various scenarios
  • Prepare and present market outlooks for internal and external stakeholders, including sourcing team members, executive leaders, and customers
  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize exposure to price volatility and other market risks, consistent with the NDCP Commodity Framework and policies
  • Collect, evaluate, and maintain data from various sources in the NDCP Commodity Trade Risk Management (CTRM) system. Ensure data accuracy and completeness for optimum risk management for NDCP’s customers.   
  • Lead projects and non-technical work on optimizing and integrating the CTRM and other NDCP software solutions, and act as a subject matter expert to resolve system and process issues and provide ongoing support to users (with support from NDCP’s IT organization) 
  • Partner with NDCP’s IT team, outside business experts, and vendors to troubleshoot problems and implement technical solutions to support the NDCP CTRM
  • Develop and maintain essential documentation, including business process flows, data sources, key controls, and user manuals. 
  • Support the Category and Commodity team members with various projects and ad hoc reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning all pricing and technical information regarding NDCP products and those submitted by suppliers to preserve a positive business reputation and to obtain competitive pricing.
  • Promote the achievement of corporate goals and objectives by cultivating a thorough understanding of NDCP’s mission statement and relating it to member’s needs.
  • Provide reporting and analysis by utilizing advanced analytical tools including SAP, BI Analysis for Excel and PowerPivot
  • Provide regular, consistent, and meaningful information to teammates and company stakeholders
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervision Exercised

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or other equivalent
  2. 3-5 years of experience in Supply Chain or Finance. 
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required.  Advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, Alteryx, and SAP preferred.
  4. A passion for data, commodity markets, and a willingness to learn
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment following direction in an independent manner.
  6. Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at a time and quickly switch direction as needed.
  7. Strong analytical and research skills, high attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  8. Ability to build productive customer relationships; take responsibility for customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  9. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner. Uses appropriate grammar, pronunciation and tone to enhance understanding.
  10. Ability to seek out and accept feedback, is a proactive learner, takes on tough assignments to improve skills, keeps knowledge and skills up-to-date, turns mistakes into learning opportunities.
  11. Understands the importance of team and individual deadlines and responsibilities, listens to others and values opinions, helps team leader to meet goals, welcomes newcomers and promotes a team atmosphere.
