Overview

This opportunity is for a Senior Coffee Supply & Logistics Planner and will be a staff position reporting to the Category Manager of Coffee.  The Co-op is in Duluth, GA and it is preferred that the selected candidate live in the Atlanta area.  Typical in-office requirements are 1 to 2 days per week, although this fluctuates depending on required meetings and training. 

The Senior Coffee Supply & Logistics Planner is responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of global coffee supply flows from origin through roasting and distribution. The role is primarily focused on logistics, inventory management, and operational execution, while also requiring a solid understanding of coffee commodity markets, the planner will collaborate very closely with the procurement and risk management teams, providing operational insights and lending support to coverage and contract execution when needed.

Responsibilities

Logistics & Supply Chain Execution

  • Manage end-to-end coffee shipments from origin through customs, warehousing, and final delivery to roasters/distribution centers.
  • Partner with importers, freight forwarders, carriers, and 3PLs to ensure cost-effective and timely deliveries.
  • Proactively monitor logistics networks abroad—including ports, container availability, and labor strikes—to anticipate risks and secure alternative routing solutions.
  • Maintain visibility of inventory in transit, at port, and at warehouses, ensuring availability for roasting and distribution.
  • Maintain optimal and risk adjusted inventory levels throughout the supply chain at all times
  • Coordinate with roasters to align inbound green coffee flows with production schedules.

Supply Planning & Inventory Management

  • Build and maintain rolling supply plans aligned with demand forecasts and safety stock targets.
  • Track supplier contract execution, shipment bookings, and compliance with delivery terms.
  • Balance inventory coverage to minimize working capital while avoiding service gaps.
  • Develop contingency plans for logistics disruptions, weather impacts, or market shocks. 

 

Commodity Market Awareness & Futures Support

  • Maintain a working knowledge of ICE Arabica futures, and differentials.
  • Partner with Procurement and Risk Management on PTBF execution, hedge coverage, and contract structures.
  • Provide operational data to support decision-making around market exposure and supplier execution.
  • Contribute insights on landed costs by linking futures, freight, tariffs, and operational drivers.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop dashboards on inventory positions, quality, shipments, landed costs, and supplier performance.
  • Track logistics KPIs (on-time delivery, inventory turns, landed cost per lb, OTIF performance).
  • Conduct root cause analyses of disruptions and implement corrective actions.
  • Recommend process improvements to streamline logistics and enhance supply reliability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Finance on landed cost forecasting and budget impacts.
  • Partner with Procurement to align supplier execution with contract terms.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Sustainability teams to ensure certification compliance and traceability.
  • Serve as a bridge between day-to-day logistics execution, sourcing and risk management strategy.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (Master’s a plus).
  • 7+ years of experience in logistics, international supply chain operations, or commodity procurement (coffee preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of global shipping, customs, and import/export processes.
  • Working knowledge of coffee futures, PTBF, and hedging concepts (support role, not primary).
  • Proficiency in ERP/CTRM systems and advanced Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Previous experience in large Beverage CPG company an advantage
  • Fluency in English required; Spanish or Portuguese ideal but not required.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
