  • Overview

    Manager-level safety professional responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing management of transportation related safety programs. Collaborate with operations personnel and external partners to develop and maintain all terminal locations DOT-related safety programs and policies, ensuring full compliance with applicable regulations.


    • Oversee all aspects of fleet safety for the organization’s transportation operations.
    • Evaluate transportation accidents and incidents throughout the organization and proactively design and implement programs and protocols to mitigate future incidents / losses.
    • Establish program and protocols to ensure the Company maintains full compliance with the hiring criteria of CDL “A” drivers, ensuring full compliance with DOT regulations and protocols.
    • Oversee staff with the management and execution of the Company’s DOT and non DOT drug and alcohol testing programs.
    • Establish and ensure the Company maintains full compliance with applicable OSHA and workplace safety regulations and protocols.
    • Direct and oversee compliance with Driver Qualification file format and maintenance program to ensure compliance with all State and Federal transportation requirements.
    • Develop and ensure training and compliance with the Company’s Safety Policies, Regulated Operations, and Safe Work Practices,
    • Design and implement the Company’s DOT related training programs, including the execution and delivering Smith Systems training.
    • Establish pre-employment physical assessments to ensure candidate suitability to perform operations related roles, including overseeing the selection and relationship of third party safety related vendors (i.e., Concentra, etc.)
    • Oversee transportation related accident and injury reporting, investigation and follow up.
    • Develop Operations training programs to ensure all employees are up to date with FMCSA, CSA 2010, OSHA and all other Federal and State mandated policies and procedures.
    • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of transportation and operations related regulations affecting the Company’s North American transportation operations.
    • Collaborate with leadership (transportation operations) to ensure the Company’s safety programs and policies are effectively implemented and adhered to.


    • BS Required in Occupational Safety and Health or related field
    • Five plus years of managing Fleet Safety
    • Ideal candidate will have multi-state Fleet Safety operations and programs
    • Certified Safety Professional or willing to achieve
    • Smith System certification
    • Proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of FMCSA, CSA 2010, OSHA and all other Fleet Safety rules and regulations.
    • Strong presentation and communication skills.
    • Strong team orientation and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Ability and willingness to travel up to 80% of the year to provide safety oversight, education and compliance support to the Company’s North American operations.
